Dental Crowns (To Strengthen or Restore a Tooth) in Turkey
What is a Dental Crown?
A dental crown is a strong cap that covers the whole visible part of a tooth. It restores shape, strength, and appearance when a tooth is too weak for a simple filling.
Crowns are custom-made in a lab (or in some clinics on the same day) and colour-matched to blend with your smile.
Common materials include zirconia, lithium disilicate (e.max), porcelain fused to metal (PFM), and full metal for back teeth where strength matters most.
Best for: Cracked, heavily filled, worn, root-treated, or broken teeth that need full-cover protection and a natural look
Duration: Prep visit 60–90 minutes, then up to 5 days for the lab; fit visit 30–45 minutes (same-day options may be possible in some centres)
The Problem it Solves
Teeth can become weak after large fillings, root canal treatment, cracks, heavy wear, or trauma. Without support, the tooth can break further, risk pain, or need removal. A crown wraps the tooth, spreading bite forces and lowering the chance of future fracture. Crowns also improve shape and colour when a tooth looks poor or is out of line.
Materials at a glance
Zirconia: Very strong, good for back teeth, now available with better translucency for nicer looks.
Lithium disilicate (e.max): Highly aesthetic, ideal for front teeth and many premolars; still strong when bonded.
PFM (porcelain fused to metal): Long track record; strong core with ceramic on top. Can show a grey line at the gum over time.
Full metal (e.g., gold alloy): Excellent longevity and gentle to opposing teeth; less aesthetic.
We choose the right material for your bite, position in the mouth, and goals. Your plan lists the named materials we will use.
Your New Crown in 6 Steps
From initial assessment to your final fit. Here is exactly how we restore your tooth's strength and appearance.
Assessment & Plan
We check the tooth with X-rays and a clinical exam. If decay is present, we remove it first. If the tooth is very weak, we may place a core build-up or a post after root canal treatment to hold the crown safely.
Tooth Preparation
The tooth is made numb. We shape it gently to create space for the crown. We protect the nerve and keep the margins smooth. Where suitable, minimal-prep designs may be used to save tooth tissue.
Impressions / Digital Scan
We take a precise mould or a digital scan instead of messy goo. We record your bite and shade meticulously so the laboratory can match your natural smile perfectly.
Temporary Crown
You usually leave with a temporary crown to protect the tooth while the lab makes your final crown. It looks tidy but isn't as strong—avoid very sticky or hard foods on it.
Lab Fabrication
The lab makes your custom crown (colour, shape, contact points). For same-day systems, a milled crown may be made in-house using CAD/CAM technology.
Fit Visit
We remove the temporary, try in the new crown, check fit, bite, and colour, then cement or bond it in place. We give care advice and book a review.
Before & After Photos

Comfort & Recovery
- Nerve Irritation: Rare. We use careful preparation techniques to protect the nerve.
- Fracture: Crowns are strong but can break if you crunch ice or hard bones.
- Decay at Margins: Plaque can still build up at the gum edge. Good hygiene is essential.
- Gum Recession: Gums can naturally recede with age or poor brushing, showing the crown margin.

Your Frequently Asked Questions About Crowns
Will the crown look natural?
Yes. We shade-match and shape the crown to blend with your smile. Lithium disilicate or aesthetic zirconia can look very natural.
Do I always need a root canal before a crown?
No. Many crowned teeth do not need root canal treatment. We only do it if the nerve is infected or symptoms suggest it’s needed.
How long will my crown last?
With good cleaning and regular reviews, many crowns last 10–15 years or more. Avoiding very hard foods and using a night guard if you grind will help
What if my crown feels high after fitting?
Tell us. A quick bite adjustment usually solves it and protects the tooth and jaw joints
Can a crown whiten like natural teeth?
No. Crowns do not bleach. If you plan to whiten nearby teeth, do it before shade-matching the crown.
Which material is best for me?
t depends on tooth position, bite forces, and aesthetic goals. We’ll recommend zirconia, lithium disilicate, PFM, or full metal with clear pros and cons..
Can a crown come off?
It’s uncommon, but cement can loosen. If it happens, keep the crown safe and contact us—we can often re-cement it
Does a crown protect against decay forever?
No. The tooth under the crown can still decay at the edges if plaque stays there. Daily cleaning and hygiene visits are essential.
Will I need a temporary crown?
Usually yes while the lab makes the final crown. Treat it gently and avoid sticky toffees or very hard foods.
What if the tooth is very broken down?
We may need a core build-up or a post after root canal treatment to give the crown a firm base. We’ll explain this in your plan.
I clench my teeth—can I still have a crown?
Yes, but we’ll choose strong materials and advise a night guard to protect the crown and opposing teeth.
Crown vs veneer for a dark front tooth?
If the tooth is strong and mainly needs colour/shape change, a veneer might work. If it’s weak or root-treated, a crown gives better protection.
