To choose a dental clinic in Antalya, get twelve things in writing before you pay a deposit: the licence, the named dentist, an itemised plan with materials, and what happens if the plan changes. A clinic that will not put them in writing has told you what you need to know.

Antalya has hundreds of dental practices, from single-chair surgeries in the old town to large centres built around international patients. Most of the difference between a good outcome and a redo is visible before you fly, if you ask the right questions and insist on the answers on paper. These are the twelve we would ask any clinic, including our own.

The 12 checks at a glance

# Check A good answer A red flag
1 Facility licence Ministry of Health licence and health tourism authorisation, shown on request "We are fully licensed" with nothing to show
2 The treating dentist Full name, qualifications, registration "Our expert team"
3 Video consultation With the dentist who will treat you Only a coordinator or a sales agent
4 Written plan Every tooth numbered, every procedure listed One package figure for "a smile"
5 Materials Implant brand and model, crown material named "Premium European" anything
6 Number of teeth A reason for each tooth being treated Twenty crowns proposed from three photos
7 The lab On site, or named with a stated turnaround Unknown, or "we outsource to the best"
8 The scan A clear rule for what happens if it changes the plan "We will see when you arrive"
9 The deposit Amount, refund terms and payee in writing Bank transfer to a personal account
10 Time in Antalya Days that match the work Twenty crowns in three days
11 Guarantee What it covers, for how long, who pays travel "Lifetime guarantee" with no document
12 UK aftercare A named route for problems at home "Just send us a WhatsApp"

If you want a longer list to work through, our 20-point clinic checklist goes into each area in more depth.

Start with the licence, not the reviews

Check one is the facility licence. Dental clinics in Turkey are licensed by the Ministry of Health, and a clinic that treats foreign patients should also hold the Ministry's international health tourism authorisation. Ask for both as documents, and check the clinic name on them matches the name on your quote and your invoice.

This matters more than any star rating. Reviews can be bought, filtered and moved between profiles. A licence is a legal record of who runs the building and what it is allowed to do.

Be wary of agencies that will not name the clinic until you have paid. You are entitled to know where you are being treated before you commit, and an agency with nothing to hide will tell you on the first call.

Find out who will actually treat you

Check two is the dentist. Get the full name of the person who will do your treatment, where they qualified and how long they have practised. Dentists working in Turkey must be registered to practise, and you can ask the clinic for that registration as well as the diploma.

The awkward part is that some large clinics sell on one name and treat with another. The senior implant surgeon on the website may see you for five minutes while a junior colleague preps your teeth. That is not automatically bad, but you should know it in advance.

Check three is the video consultation. It should be with that treating dentist, or at least with a clinician who can answer clinical questions, not a coordinator reading from a price list. A good call covers your medical history, what the photos and X-rays show and what the plan cannot fix. If the call feels like a sales pitch, it is one.

A written plan names every tooth and every material

Check four is the plan itself. It should list each tooth by number with the procedure next to it: a crown here, a root canal there, an extraction and an implant at the back. A single package figure for "a new smile" tells you nothing and leaves room for extras once you are in the chair.

Check five is materials. For implants, the plan should name the brand, the system and ideally the size, because a UK dentist will need that to find parts in five years. Our single implant is £410 on our standard system and £750 on Straumann BLX, and the plan says which you are getting.

For crowns, the material decides both strength and appearance. A zirconia crown at £170 is very strong and suits back teeth. An E-max crown at £200 is more translucent and often suits the front. Our crowns page explains which material goes where. If the quote just says "porcelain" or "zirconium", ask what kind.

Check seven is the lab. Crowns and veneers are made by technicians, and the quality of the lab shows in every one of them. A lab inside the clinic means the technician can see you, check the shade in daylight and adjust a crown the same afternoon. An outside lab can do excellent work too, but ask who it is and how long they take, because that decides how long you stay.

The overtreatment check: why those teeth

Check six is the one most patients skip. Ask why each tooth on the plan needs treatment, and what would happen if it were left alone.

A crown takes a lot of healthy tooth away, far more than a filling or a veneer. Once it is gone it does not come back, and that tooth will need a replacement crown every so often for the rest of your life. A clinic that proposes crowning twenty teeth from a few phone photos, without asking what is wrong with them, is selling a look rather than treating a mouth.

There are good reasons to crown a tooth. A root-treated back tooth is the clearest case: the nerve is gone, the tooth is dry and brittle, and it is far more likely to fracture. A large old filling with cracks around it is another. "So they all match" is a reason, but it is a cosmetic one, and you should hear the trade-off before you agree to it.

If the answer is that a tooth only needs whitening, bonding or nothing at all, that is a sign of a clinic worth trusting.

What the scan can change, and what your deposit buys

Check eight is the scan. Most clinics take a CBCT scan on the first day in Antalya, and it can show things the photos could not: less bone than expected, a cracked root, an infection at the tip of a tooth. Ask in advance what happens then. The right answer is that you are told before anything is done, the plan is re-agreed in writing and you can say no.

Check nine is the deposit. Get the amount, what it secures, when it is refundable and who you are paying, in writing. Paying by credit card can give you protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, subject to its limits and to who the payment goes to. A bank transfer to an individual's personal account gives you almost none, and no legitimate clinic should ask for one.

Check ten is time. The number of days should match the work. A full set of crowns or veneers needs preparation, a fitting of temporaries, lab time and a try-in before the final cement. When a plan squeezes that into a long weekend, something is being skipped, and it is usually the try-in or the bite check.

What happens when you are back in the UK

Check eleven is the guarantee. Ask for it as a document and read three things: what it covers, how long for, and who pays to fix a problem. A guarantee that only applies if you fly back at your own cost is worth much less than it sounds. Ask, too, what voids it, because most guarantees require you to have check-ups and wear a night guard if you grind.

Check twelve is UK aftercare. Crowns chip, temporaries come off and a bite can feel wrong once the swelling has gone. You need to know who looks at that, where, and how quickly. You also need your records: the X-rays, the scan, the implant brand and size, and the crown materials, so any dentist can pick up where the clinic left off.

How we answer the same 12 checks

We arrange treatment at one partner clinic in Antalya. It holds a Turkish Ministry of Health licence and has its own lab on site, so crowns and veneers are made in the same building and the technician can see you in person. You can read more about it on our clinic page.

You meet a clinician on video before you book, and you get a fixed written price with every tooth itemised before you fly. If the scan in Antalya changes the plan, you hear about it before treatment and the plan is re-agreed in writing. Crowns carry a five-year guarantee, aftercare is arranged in the UK and the terms are set out on our guarantee page.

We are not the only clinic route in Antalya that passes these checks, and we would rather you used them on us than took our word for it.

Questions patients ask about choosing a clinic in Antalya

How do I check that a dental clinic in Antalya is licensed? Ask the clinic for its Ministry of Health licence and its health tourism authorisation as documents. Check that the clinic name on them matches the name on your quote and invoice. A clinic that hesitates over this is one to drop.

Is a cheaper Antalya clinic always worse? No, but a much lower quote usually means something is left out, such as the scan, the abutment, temporary teeth or the try-in appointment. Compare itemised plans, not headline figures. If one plan has fewer lines, that is often where the saving comes from.

Should I trust Google and Trustpilot reviews? Use them as one signal among several. Look for detailed reviews that name a treatment and mention what happened months later, and read how the clinic replies to complaints. A wall of short five-star reviews posted in the same week is a warning, not a recommendation.

How much deposit should a clinic in Antalya ask for? There is no fixed rule, but the amount, what it secures and the refund terms should all be in writing before you pay. Pay the clinic or the agency named on your plan, by a method that gives you some protection. Never pay into a personal account.

What if the clinic changes the plan when I arrive? Plans can change once the scan is taken, and that is not always a bad sign. What matters is that you are told before anything is done, the new plan and its cost are put in writing and you are free to decline. A clinic that starts work first and explains later fails check eight.

The gentlest way to start

Tell us what you need. We will price it in writing.

One message and a coordinator replies with an indicative plan and price. Send a photograph of your smile if you have one - it makes the answer better, and it is never a call unless you ask for one.

Would rather talk it through? Book a free consultation, see every price first, or design your smile on your own photograph.
