Flying to Antalya for Dental Treatment: Airports, Transfers and Timings

Which airport, how long the transfer takes, and why the flight home should be the last thing you book

You fly into Antalya Airport, roughly four hours from London, and the drive into the city takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on where you stay. The part that needs planning is timing: crowns and veneers usually mean one trip of five to seven days, implants mean two trips months apart, and you should not book the flight home until your written plan says how many days you need.

This guide covers the airport, the flights, the transfer and how to fit both legs around treatment so you neither rush the work nor pay to change a ticket.

Antalya has one airport, and it is the one you want

Antalya Airport, code AYT, sits about 13 km east of the city centre. You do not need Dalaman, which is well over three hours' drive away, and you do not need to route through Istanbul unless the schedule forces it.

The airport has two international terminals and a separate domestic one. Your booking confirmation names the terminal. Pass it on to whoever is meeting you, because a driver waiting at the wrong building costs you half an hour after a four-hour flight.

Turkey stays on UTC+3 all year. That puts it two hours ahead of the UK in summer and three hours ahead in winter. If you take medication on a fixed timetable, work out the shift before you go, not at the clinic.

British passport holders do not currently need a visa for a short visit, but passport validity rules apply. Check the FCDO travel advice for Turkey when you book, not the night before.

Direct in summer, thinner in winter

From spring to autumn, low-cost and holiday airlines fly direct to Antalya from most large UK airports. You have plenty of choice, and fares drop sharply outside school holidays.

From roughly November to March the direct schedule shrinks. Some regional airports stop flying there altogether, and you may need to fly from London or Manchester, or connect through Istanbul. A connection adds hours and a second chance of a lost bag. That is a nuisance on the way out and a real problem on the way home with a swollen jaw.

Check the winter timetable before you fix treatment dates. It is easier to move an appointment by a day than to find a flight that does not exist.

How long each treatment keeps you in Antalya

The trip length is set by the treatment, not by the flight deal. These are typical stays. Your written plan gives the real figure for your mouth.

Treatment Our Antalya price Trips Typical stay Earliest sensible flight home
Zirconia crowns £170 per tooth One 5 to 7 days The day after the final fit
E-max laminate veneers £210 per tooth One 5 to 7 days The day after the final fit
Composite bonding £140 per tooth One 2 to 3 days The day after treatment
Single implant, standard system £410 Two, 3 to 6 months apart About 5 days, then 5 to 7 1 to 2 days after surgery, unless you had a sinus lift
All-on-4, 12 zirconium teeth £3,099 Two About 7 days, then about 7 After the post-operative check, as the surgeon advises

Crown and veneer trips are driven by the lab. Teeth are prepared and scanned, the lab makes the restorations, you try them in, they are adjusted, then they are bonded. Our partner clinic has its lab on site, so a remake for shade or fit does not wait on a courier. It still takes time, which is why the fitting day should never be your last day.

Implants are different because bone sets the pace. The implant has to fuse with the jaw before it carries a permanent tooth, and nobody can hurry that. Our guide to dental implants in Antalya explains what happens on each of the two trips.

Book the flight home last

The common mistake is booking both legs the day the fare looks good. Then the scan on day one shows a tooth needs root canal treatment before it can be crowned, or a crown goes back to the lab for shade, and you either rush the work or pay to change the ticket.

The better order is video consultation, written plan with the number of days, then flights. Most low-cost airlines price each leg separately, so two single tickets cost about the same as a return. Book the outbound early if you like and the return once the plan is fixed, or buy a fare that lets you change the return date.

Leave one clear day between the final fit and the flight. A new crown that sits slightly high on the bite is a ten-minute adjustment in the chair. Discovered at home, it is a fortnight of sore chewing and a trip to your local dentist.

Arriving: time the flight around the first appointment

The first appointment is usually the morning after you land. It covers the CBCT scan, an examination and a face-to-face run through the plan you agreed on video. This is where the plan can still change, so you want to be awake for it.

An afternoon or evening arrival is ideal. A flight that lands after midnight, followed by a 9am scan and possibly a local anaesthetic, is how people end up agreeing to things they did not take in.

Keep these in your hand luggage, not the hold:

  • Your written treatment plan and the clinic's contact number
  • Recent X-rays or scans, saved on your phone
  • A list of your medicines with doses, and the medicines themselves
  • Painkillers you know you tolerate, for the flight home

Bags go missing on connections. Your blood pressure tablets should not go with them.

Getting from the airport to the city

The run into central Antalya takes about 20 to 30 minutes outside rush hour. Lara, east of the centre, is closer to the airport. Konyaaltı, on the western beach, is more like 30 to 40 minutes. Belek, Side and Kemer are much further out, and staying there means a long drive to the clinic and back on every appointment day.

You have three ways in:

  • A pre-booked car. A driver meets you in arrivals with your name. It costs more than a taxi but there is no queue and no haggling, and it is the right choice on the way home after surgery.
  • A metered taxi from the rank outside arrivals. Fine if you are confident and travelling light. Make sure the meter is running.
  • The tram into the city. Cheap, slow with luggage, and not something you want to do with stitches in your mouth.

If transfers are part of your package, the plan should say so in writing: who meets you, at which terminal, and what happens if your flight lands three hours late. Our treatment packages set out what is covered on each.

Antalya is a good place to spend the quiet days between appointments. Our guide to things to do in Antalya covers the old town, the beaches and what is sensible when your mouth is healing.

Flying home after treatment

What you had done decides how soon you can fly.

Crowns, veneers, bonding and fillings carry no flying restriction. The only reason to wait is the bite check above.

After extractions or implant surgery, most people fly comfortably a day or two later. The blood clot in the socket needs time to settle, and the change in cabin pressure can make a fresh wound throb. After a sinus lift the wait is longer, because the pressure change acts directly on the sinus that has just been grafted. The surgeon tells you how long in your case. Our guide to flying after dental surgery goes through each procedure in detail.

Swelling after surgery usually peaks on the second or third day. A flight on day three can be the least comfortable point of the whole trip, so if you have a choice, fly on day two or wait until day four or five.

On the plane, take painkillers before take-off rather than after the throbbing starts. Carry water and something soft to eat. Keep the post-operative instructions with you, because your UK dentist will want to see them.

One last point that catches people out: a standard holiday insurance policy often excludes planned treatment abroad. Tell your insurer the reason for the trip and get the answer in writing.

Questions about flying to Antalya for dental treatment

How long is the flight from the UK to Antalya? Roughly four hours from London and the south of England, a little longer from northern England and Scotland. Turkey is two hours ahead of the UK in summer and three in winter.

Which airport do I fly into? Antalya Airport, code AYT, about 13 km from the city centre. Check which international terminal your flight uses and pass it on to whoever is collecting you.

Should I book flights before my treatment plan is confirmed? Book the outbound if you need to, but leave the return until your written plan states the number of days. If you must book both, choose a fare that allows a date change.

How soon can I fly home after dental implants? Most people fly a day or two after simple implant surgery. After a sinus lift you wait longer, and the surgeon sets the date based on how the graft looks.

Can I fly to Antalya for dental treatment in winter? Yes, but there are fewer direct flights and some regional UK airports stop the route. You may need to fly from a larger airport or connect through Istanbul.

Do I need someone to meet me at the airport? Not for a crown or veneer trip if you are comfortable with a taxi. For the flight home after surgery, a pre-booked car to the airport is worth arranging.
