Stay in central Antalya, Lara or Konyaaltı, within about 20 minutes of the clinic, and pick the room for the days after treatment rather than the days before it. Belek, Side and Kemer are lovely and they are the wrong choice for a dental trip: every appointment becomes a long round drive, often with a numb mouth.

This guide covers which parts of the city work, what a room needs when you have stitches or fresh crowns, and the hotel features that matter far less than the brochure suggests.

Distance to the chair matters more than the view

A crown or veneer trip usually means four or five appointments in a week. An implant trip means a scan, surgery and at least one check before you fly. Each of those is a drive there and back, and some of them you make with a swollen face and a mouth full of gauze.

Twenty minutes each way is easy. Fifty minutes each way, twice on a surgery day, is a long, tiring day you did not need. It also makes a quick extra visit harder, and the extra visit is often the one that matters: a bite adjustment, a loose temporary, a stitch that is bothering you.

Your written plan gives the clinic's address. Check the drive from any hotel you are considering at the time of day your appointments fall, not at midnight when the roads are empty. Antalya traffic is light by UK city standards, but the coast road into the centre slows down at rush hour and in high summer.

The parts of Antalya that work for dental patients

Antalya is a big city strung along the coast, and the areas visitors book differ more than the map suggests. These are the ones UK patients usually weigh up.

Area Feel Suits The catch
City centre Busy, practical, everything within walking distance Short crown and veneer trips, people who want shops and pharmacies close by Traffic noise, fewer sea views
Kaleiçi (old town) Walled harbour quarter, boutique hotels, lively at night A pleasant base for a crown or veneer week Steep cobbled lanes, cars cannot reach many hotels, bar noise late
Lara Long beach east of the centre, closest to the airport, larger resort hotels Implant patients who want space and a quiet room Further from the old town, some hotels feel like a holiday camp
Konyaaltı Long beach west of the centre, apartments and mid-size hotels Longer stays, people who want a kitchen Further from the airport, beach side can be busy in summer
Belek, Side, Kemer Resort towns outside the city A holiday after treatment, not during it The best part of an hour each way to the clinic, sometimes more

The old town is the one to think twice about after surgery. It is beautiful and it is built on slopes, with uneven stone underfoot and hotels that a taxi cannot drive up to. Dragging a case up a lane the day after implant surgery is not the recovery you planned.

If you want the resort, book it for the end. Finish treatment, have your final check, then move out to Belek or Side for a few days with nothing to do but rest.

Pick the room for the days after treatment

Most people choose a hotel as if they were on holiday, and for the first day or two they are. The room has to work for the part of the trip when you are not.

After implants or extractions you are told to keep your head raised for the first night or two, so extra pillows matter more than a balcony. Swelling peaks around the second or third day, and you will spend much of that time lying down. A quiet room away from the lift, the pool bar and the street is worth asking for by name.

After crowns or veneers you have no wound to protect, but your teeth are often sensitive to cold for a few days and your bite can feel odd. You want somewhere calm to sit with a soft meal, not a buffet queue.

Air conditioning that works is not a luxury in Antalya from June to September. Overnight temperatures stay high, and a hot, stuffy room makes a sore face throb and sleep harder.

A kitchen beats an all-inclusive buffet

All-inclusive looks like good value until you cannot chew. For the first few days after surgery you are on soft, lukewarm food, and a hotel buffet rarely has much beyond soup and yoghurt that suits you. Crusty bread, grilled meat and salad are exactly what you are told to avoid.

An aparthotel or serviced apartment with a small kitchen and a fridge solves most of this. You can keep yoghurt, soup, eggs and soft fruit to hand, and cool a drink without ice cubes against a fresh wound. A small blender is worth packing if you expect a long soft-food stretch after a full arch.

The other thing all-inclusive puts in front of you is free alcohol. After implant surgery you are told to avoid it while the sites heal, and it does not mix well with the painkillers you are likely to be taking. If you would rather not be tempted for a week, do not pay for it.

Pools, the sea and the sun

Most people want a pool. After surgery, the surgeon will usually tell you to stay out of it, and out of the sea, for at least the first few days. Open wounds and chlorinated or salt water do not go together, and diving or swimming hard raises blood pressure in the head when you want it low.

The same goes for hours on a lounger in full sun. Heat increases swelling, and dehydration makes everything heal more slowly. A shaded terrace serves you better that week than a beach club.

None of this applies to crowns, veneers or bonding. If that is your treatment, swim as you like between appointments.

What to ask before you book a room

These questions take two minutes by email and save a lot of trouble on arrival.

  • How long is the drive to the clinic address on the plan, at 9am and at 5pm?
  • Is there a lift, and can a car drop you at the door?
  • Can you have a quiet room, away from the bar, the pool and the street?
  • Is there a fridge in the room, or a kitchen?
  • Does the air conditioning work at night, and is it included?
  • What is the policy if you need to stay a night or two longer?

That last one matters more than it looks. A crown that goes back to the lab for shade, or a check the surgeon wants to repeat, can push your leaving day. A hotel that will extend you at the same rate is worth more than one that is slightly cheaper and fully booked.

If accommodation is part of your package, the plan names the hotel and the nights covered. Our treatment packages set out what each one includes, so you can see which costs are on the written price and which you book yourself.

Booking the room around the treatment, not the other way round

Book the room once your plan states the number of days, and book one night more than you think you need. The first appointment is usually the morning after you land, and the final fit should never fall on your last day. Our guide to flying to Antalya for dental treatment covers why the flight home is the last thing you book.

If you are having implants, you will make this trip twice. It makes sense to note what worked about the first stay. The second visit, for the final bridge or crown, is calmer and you can be less fussy about the room.

The quiet days between appointments are the best part of a dental trip to Antalya if you plan them gently. Our guide to things to do in Antalya covers what is worth seeing, and which of it is sensible when your mouth is healing.

Questions about where to stay in Antalya for dental treatment

Is it better to stay in Lara or Konyaaltı for dental treatment? Either works if the drive to the clinic is short. Lara is closer to the airport and has more large hotels. Konyaaltı has more apartments with kitchens, which suits a longer stay.

Can I stay in Belek or Side and travel in for appointments? You can, but each appointment becomes a long round trip, sometimes with a numb mouth. If you want a resort, stay in the city for the treatment and move out once you are finished.

Is the old town a good place to stay during treatment? For a crown or veneer week, it is a pleasant base. After implant surgery, the steep cobbled lanes and late bar noise make it harder going than the city or the beach districts.

Should I book all-inclusive? Only if the hotel is right for other reasons. After surgery you are on soft food and avoiding alcohol, so you use little of what you are paying for.

How many nights should I book? The number your written plan gives, plus one. That covers a late remake or a repeat check without paying to change a flight.

Can I go swimming between appointments? After crowns, veneers or bonding, yes. After extractions or implant surgery, wait until the surgeon says the sites have closed, usually at least a few days.
